About
I am one woman with one MILLION ideas. ask anyone in my circle, my mind is on overdrive until 9pm. then I turn into spaghetti. So this I needed to poor my thoughts, learnings and questions into something. and this is it. A place to celebrate being a vocal athlete. And hopefully a community of people who can share their experience and learn together.
VODY stemmed from my own personal need for structure to keep my voice healthy. Before every performance of which I had about 8 a week, I would do what I now call VODY. I needed some kind of sequence that warmed up not only my voice but my body as well and prepared my mind and nervous system for the stage. This environment is going to look different for everyone but for me, I had to make sure to stay healthy and energized throughout 10 1/2 months of singing and dancing almost every night to hundreds of people. I was struggling to feel good about every performance. And when my voice wasn’t its best it really affected me. It affected my happiness. Singing always came easily to me. But when I first started singing professionally, I treated my voice horribly. I was singing in a cover band at the time belting over large crowds drunk rowdy people and then partying afterwards and not letting my voice recover. Inevitably I damage my voice and developed nodules. That was my scare. For me it’s what needed to happen to make a change. There is a chance I’ve never sing again. that would be the end of my career. So I started to study everything from yoga to nutrition and I quickly started to see a change. The incorporation of breath work drastically helped my stamina and mindset, helping any anxiety or stress I felt while on stage or at auditions. Yoga and fitness help me with my diaphragm control, my heart rate, and my energy. Proper nutrition helps keep my chords healthy and hydrated and kept me going even in late night performances. Ever since I’ve been practising these skills I’ve made it a habit but that I look forward to doing. I’ve haven’t lost my voice since. I’ve never been on sick truck. And I’ve never missed a performance. In my business that’s pretty rare.
I want to share my experience and skills I’ve learned over my head to career to anyone who wants to strengthen their voice. It’s an amazing feeling to love your voice and anyone can. But it takes a little work. I’m hoping that eventually this platform grows across different specialties different cultures different types of people. The goal is to help people find their voice and the power behind it.
